Hello, my name is Leslie Rice, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker currently working in private practice. I graduated from University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2002 and have been working in the counseling field since then. Prior to working in private practice I was employed with Presbyterian hospital working with adults, families and children. I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings and have developed a special interest in Borderline Personality Disorder and self-harm behavior. My choice of treatment methods is a specific form of Cognitive-Behavioral therapy known as Dialectical Behavior therapy. The primary focus of any cognitive-behavioral treatment is understanding how thoughts influence our emotions and overall well-being. Cognitive-behavioral treatment requires active collaboration between client and therapist to set and achieve specific goals. There are often homework assignments between sessions to solidify skills and practice identifying problematic thoughts, emotions and behavior.
I am currently accepting referrals of children and adults age 10 or older but will consider younger children on a case-by-case basis. To find out more about my services or schedule a counseling appointment contact Matthews Family Counseling at (704) 771-1714.
